Sunday 26th Feb: 9-5pm

International Presenter, and UK Metabolic Effect Master Trainer Lincoln Bryden is delivering the first Metabolic Effect Indoor Group Exercise Course in Bristol and YOU are invited to join this fat loss revolution!

This course teaches group exercise instructors and person…al trainers how to conduct the Metabolic Effect indoor class. Participants learn the original Rest-Based Training format for group exercise. The Metabolic Effect indoor group exercise class is like no other in the industry. The workout is a 30-minute, dumbbell-based metabolic conditioning class utilizing special hybrid exercises, athletic conditioning tactics and high powered strength and plyometric moves.

This is the ONLY group exercise class that works WITH the key hormones in the body responsible for burning fat!

Unlike most formats that force instructors to adhere to a ridged and defined structure, ME teaches what we called structured flexibility. Instructors are given a flexible format that allows them full creativity in the workout.

The key aspects of the workout include:

Rest-Based Training – Our proprietary “push until you can’t, rest until you can” format allows participants to enjoy high-intensity exercise geared to their specific level of fitness.
Self-Determined – Participants are coached and guided to take rest as required and adjust exercises as needed.
No choreography – There is no set choreography and the workout is not paced to music.
Completely adjustable – The trainer learns to manage the class in a way that is infinitely adjustable according to class participants.

Also included with this seminar:

Free membership to Lincoln Bryden’s ever-popular web site www.fitnesstrainingdownloads.com ($299 value)
12 REPS points!

Price for the day is £160, and there is NO LICENSE FEE AFTER THAT!!

Real Style for Real People – Guest Blog Sam tells us how she does it….

February 1st, 2012
I met Sam at the Women’s Business Club Lunch ( I host the group, very relaxed, Energised and Fun, You are very welcome to come along, first Wednesday of the month 12 – 2pm, men are welcome as Guests, message below for info!) just before Christmas, full of energy & passion for what she does, she asked if she could do a Guest Blog!
At EP HQ we thought, why not, totally in line with our Body Confidence Fitness System, which gets you feeling good inside & out, Sam helps you out with your style and colours. She is also a super Energised Zumba Instructor, so definately Energised….. have a read,
Last year I quit my ‘real’ job to become a Personal Stylist, relocate to Bristol and start making everyone beautiful.  And what did my family and friends think?  They thought I was bonkers!  What did I know about fashion and surely, only rich people have stylists right?  Wrong!  Whilst it is true I know little about ‘fashion’ (I wouldn’t knowAlexander McQueen if he threw a shoulder pad at me!), I do know plenty about style, and it is my passion in life to help everyone who wants to look their very best, every day of the week.  Whatever the occasion!
There are a few key factors when it comes to styling a client which go way beyond what is ‘in’ this season.  For me, it’s all about the client.  Their personality, their colours, their likes and dislikes, their body shape, their face shape, their lifestyle and their budget.  I always take a lot time to listen to my clients’ needs so that together, we can work out exactly what is needed for them to go home looking and feeling amazing!
So how does it work?  First I deal with colour – so important when it comes to looking well dressed!  When a client comes to me, I look at how their hair colour, eye colour and skin tone work together and from that I determine their ‘dominant’ colour palette.  That is the colour palette which naturally suits them the best; do they look great in bright colours or better in dark colours?  Then I test them for a further 2 levels of colour characteristic which will include analysing whether or not they have a warm or cool skin tone.
This is particularly important for women – ever worn a lipstick or makeup that just makes you look ill?  Once I have 3 levels of colour analysis for my client, I can now demonstrate exactly which colours are real ‘WOW’ colours – and how to combine colours together to keep outfits looking fresh.

Next its the really exciting bit: personality, body shape, scale, height, face shape, proportions.  Did you know, there are 7 different body shapes and yet clothing manufacturers will typically only cater for one?!  So what do the rest of us do?  Well, during my sessions with a client I will explain exactly what their body shape is, how to dress to maximise their best features and how to minimise their challenges.  I will also advise on where to shop to get that perfect fit each time.  But all the time I am doing this, my client’s lifestyle and budget are taken into consideration.  It is vital that my client leaves me knowing exactly what their personality is and how to reflect this in their wardrobe.
And the value of coming to see me?  Well apart from saving literally thousands of pounds in the future by avoiding those costly mistakes we all make when clothes shopping (the average person wears 20% of their wardrobe 80% of the time – so what is the other 80 % of their wardrobe doing?), you will understand exactly what your best colours are, what your body shape is, and how to put all this knowledge together so that every day you can wake up and know exactly what to wear, and be confident that you will look  terrific!
Thanks for taking the time to read my little Energised Blog…… do get in touch, let me know you have read this & I will look after you well:-) Sam

Good Nutrition, Great Energy, Increased Wellbeing…..Guest Blog!

January 25th, 2012

Freelance Writer Izzy Woods asked if she could write a guest Blog for us, linked in with Healthy Eating and giving a tempting link to last minute ski holidays….. we love skiing and run Ski & Board Fitness Classes so if we suddenly disappear you know why! Here is what she has to say…A good little read, thanks Izzy.

No doubt you are already doing your best to treat your body right in the New Year. Perhaps you’ve booked a last minute ski holiday and want to be in tip-top condition, or are determined to lose the pounds you put on over the festive period. Whatever reason you have for starting the year with a mind set to be healthy, there are a few ways you can use nutrition to energise your body and increase your wellbeing.

What you eat and drink play a large part in how your body feels, and we all know that the things we like the most are usually the things that are the worst for us. The wrong type of diet often leaves you feeling sluggish and unenergetic, which can affect your wellbeing. Here are some tips to eating and drinking the right things, so that you feel energised and healthy.

Avoiding caffeine and keeping hydrated

Try to avoid coffee and tea in the morning. In fact, all sources of caffeine should be avoided, so that includes redbull, coke, green tea, sports drinks, and chocolate. If you can stop yourself from consuming items with caffeine in them all day you will be giving your liver a welcome break, and your blood sugar should be able to balance itself out. If you are used to drinking tea or coffee and regular intervals throughout the day, like many people are, you need to supplement this habit somehow.

The best way to keep hydrated is to drink water, as everybody already knows. Water can be made into a more exciting beverage by adding lemon, lime, cinnamon, ginger, mint leaves, or even parsley. Warm water with squeeze of lemon juice straight from the fruit is a great way to start the day. This combination stimulates the digestive system and helps it to cleanse itself. The drink is actually very refreshing and will leave you feeling better than a caffeine drink once you’ve got over the first day or two of withdrawal headaches. You need to drink around two litres of water every day, and this will keep you fully hydrated and also help to flush toxins out of your system.

Food that gives you everything your body needs, and nothing it doesn’t

When it comes to what you eat, the things to avoid should be obvious. Fast food, packaged meals, cakes, biscuits, and any other sort of sweet foods need to be knocked off your shopping list. The number one rule when it comes to energised nutrition is to keep everything as natural as possible. That’s right, as many vegetables as you can manage along with other types of organic food are the way to go.

This may not be what you want to hear but leafy green vegetables are the best source of concentrated nutrition available. Things like watercress, kale, spinach, and collard need to be pushed into your daily diet whether you like it or not. Very few people actually eat enough of these, so make sure you’re one of the people that does. Other great veg to eat includes cauliflower (not with cheese!), brussel sprouts, and broccoli, because they contain lots of fibre and antioxidants.

Other types of food that really help your body include onions, garlic, and egg yolks, because they contain sulphur which helps to keep the liver healthy. Try not to eat too much fruit, because generally they have a high level of fructose in them, which means your liver has to process it. A small amount each day is ok, mainly for the vitamins they contain. Reducing the amount of fruit you eat will lower your sugar intake and help you to keep slim.

Sources of protein should be limited to wild fish and organic chickens. Sticking to white meat will provide you with the protein you need while avoiding the cholesterol you don’t. You should feel lighter after meals and will have all the energy you need to exercise. Avoid any type of processed meat at all costs. These are full or emulsifiers and the worst parts of the animal they are made form, and are of very little nutritional value.

Sticking to these types of foods and drinks will do your body wonders. It will eliminate the free radicals in your system, and a good diet combined with regular exercise will keep your mind and body healthy.

If you would like any Nutritional Advice or Support, and any Ski Fitness Training just let us know :-) Happy days.

Energised Musing’s Whilst You Train for a Marathon…

January 23rd, 2012

The latest musing’s from EP Coach Alex, and like he says at the bottom, Head Coach Kim definately shares his musing’s!
If you would like to meet us both and the Team, come along to B-Fit Expo this weekend in London, visit Stand G15, next to the Catering, B Chilled & Pilates Area and we will be happy to share the Energised Philosophy with you! We have two workshops 11.40 in the B Active Zone both days, and 1.15 Sat & 2.45 Sunday in the B Healthier Zones…. see you there – remember code KI12 Saves you £5! PLus some GREAT Prizes …
Have a read of what Alex has to say…..
  • Whistle while you work… or in this case think while you run . Part of the great philosophy of EP is to help people to feel great about themselves both inside and out…to feel ENERGISED! This is a very quick blog about running as to me i think there is no better way for people to do this than to just simply grab your running shoes, i pod, radio , energy gel, whatever you need and your THOUGHTS and run! I shall endeavour to explain.

  • Im currently training for the London marathon so yesterdays training run was 13 miles, now maybe its just me but before i started this run i knew from experience that my mind would wonder into many thoughts, dreams, as i completed this and to me this is one of the most invaluable and enjoyable parts of this training. I see it as an opportunity to collect my thoughts, clear my mind and think about things as the world drifts past, in this case fairly slowly!! The other side of course is it provides a great opportunity to work on my cardio vascular fitness and get out in the fresh air.

  • To let you into my head here were some of my thoughts on my run
Mile (1) My legs feeling were a bit tired from Tuesdays’ hill session at Blaise Castle , whoops.. mental note to self to leave more time between these session next time.
Mile (3) Im feeling a lot better, it’s a lovely day , there is nothing i’d rather be doing and i have a general sense of well being
Mile (5 )My mind wonders into what i need to do at work this week , turns out not too much so happy days and i can put that to one side.
Mile (6) The Baywatch theme tune comes onto my i pod, nothing else need be said as im now running on the sand!
Mile (8) I genuinely thought of writing this blog and wondered why it is my mind wonders whilst im running ….
Mile (10) Although im feeling tired im also feeling very relaxed
Mile (12) A Minor financial thoughts as my trainers are clearly approaching the replacement point , how much more money will Mr HSBC give me this month??
Mile (13) I try to Concentrate on my form as fatigue sets in more, i keep a positive mind set to finish off the target. I feel a Sense of achievement once i’ve finished.

  • As you can see i hadn’t just been thinking about running ! This is just an example and I know in times of stress or when i have had more pressing things on my mind i have more often than not retuned from a run with a more positive outlook or ideas of what i need to do in relation to these matters.

  • The take home point…. in my eyes running can not only be good for your body but also for your mind, the next time you head out, pack your thoughts and enjoy the open road! You may wish to write down what you thought about at the end and if need be set yourself some goals around them.

  • If you want further proof , as you read this the director of this great company, Kim is probably running through a muddy field somewhere planning your next classes in her thoughts!!

  • Comment, “Yes, I think I was – a speed pyramid in the muddy fields of Blaise – I totally agree with your sentiments – running is a great form of meditation, it is where my best ideas come from and a wonderful way of energising your mind and body!” Happy days to you all….my BIG Hairy Goal is coming soon…..

For Training sessions with Energised Performance, Run Club (coming in May 2012) and much more just give us a call or email and let us know how we can help YOU today. Follow our proven formula to get leaner, lighter, fitter and more energised – inside out.

Ancient Secrets of Youthfulness…. An Alternative Energised Thought!

January 21st, 2012

So a few weeks ago I went to watch a really good friend in Panto and she had this book in her dressing room - The Ancient Secret of the Fountain of Youth, which Bruce Forsyth apparently does daily (Read:http://www.mirror.co.uk/celebs/news/2009/03/29/my-dad-bruce-is-strictly-fab-115875-21234751/) .  It is based on 5 key exercises which the Tibetan Monks recommend to do daily to increase the energy in your votex and chakra’s.  Now to me it doesn’t really matter what you think about energy, as long as you are willing to give things a go!  My Mum is very open to many alternative ways of medicine, energy and healing so I am aware of this, however, I know may people who have gained energy and wellbeing from the exercises without this awareness.

You start by practising each of the 5 exercises three times, then over the course of 10 weeks you build the exercises up to 21 times each, every day.  There are recommendations about setting positive mantra’s for the day, drinking lots of water, eating good foods and raw eggs! Plus an extra chapter that is perhaps appropriate to to the Tibetan Monks where absenting from any physical relationship with another is advocated for eternal youthfulness.

Now I began a week ago on recommendation from my friend and the benefits she has gained! I have combined this new morning routine with the Infinity Pro Power Band (See previous Blog) to see if indeed, my energy and ‘youthfulness’ will increase!  My work involves a lot of physical & mental activity with my clients, which I love but can use a lot of energy.  I really enjoy heading out for muddy runs and exploring places but felt it would be good to have something that balances this more physical angle of my life.  I learned & practised Ashtanga Yoga (with Brigid Swanson in Bristol) last year and now I am adapting this into my day.

After a week I can say that it definately has a detoxing affect, I have drunk a lot more water and needed a lot more sleep which is unusual as my sleep is great, and my training load is not that high.  I have though woken more energised, and whilst it is difficult to quantify the benefits as I eat and lead a fairly energised, healthy lifestyle I would say I think they are there! I am looking forward to 10 weeks time when I am practising it fully, and if I am managing to spin effectively 21 times without falling over there may be some hope for me in Strictly Come Dancing ….currently at 8 spins, there is no hope!!

So if you are intrigued click on the link below and let me know how you get on…… and if you think in a few weeks I look 10 years younger, let me know too!! Thank you to my gorgeous friend for the suggestion… we can compare results in a few weeks!!

Following Kit Testing – ON Running Cloud Shoe

Positive & Negative Ions…. what do you think?

January 19th, 2012

A week ago our Head Coach was sent an Infinity Pro Power Band to test….

So what’s it all about and what do we think?

The Infinity Pro explains how we are bombarded with positive ions causing people to feel tired and lacking in energy. The Positive Ions are created from all sorts of things including exhaust fumes, electrical equipement, mobile phones etc.  These then create free radicals which damange the bodies tissues, cause aging and some disease.  Negative Ions destroy positive ones, balancing things and giving you lots of energy.

The Infinity Pro is packed full or Tourmaline, a semi precious stone which has scientifcally be proven to release high levels of negative ions.  From using the Power Band people have reported better balance, strength, felxibility, sleep mood, concentration, detox and much more!

What did we think…..?

A week into testing and I would agree! I sleep very well anyway but felt I slept much deeper, especially noticeable on the first night of wearing and bounced out of bed with even more energy than normal, even after a hard training session.  I would say there is a detoxing affect as I have drunk about 500ml more most days than normal. Circulation wise I suffer with the cold at Bootcamp, and my hands and feet have felt better! So overall I would highly recommend it, and think that anything that naturally helps to boost our energy and wellbeing is a good things! They are also bringing out an i-phone cover, which I would recommend if you have an i-phone of course!

To find out more about the Infinity Pro log onto http://www.infinitypro.com/

Thanks Infinity Pro for sending us one, and anyone else who has any feedback on them do let us know!

Next Blog all about the 5 Exercises that boost Energy & Youthfulness and how we have got on with that……

Cirque du Soliel – Boundaries, Confidence & Rock Hard Abs!

January 16th, 2012

This weekend I organised a suprise party for my Mum’s 60th Birthday. She lives in Scotland, so we bought her a flight and asked her to meet us (myself, two brothers, sister and partners) at the Albert Hall …. the surprise Cirque Du Soliel Totem, one of her requests. We managed to get the most amazing seats, Mum was super excited and we all had  a great time.  But why am I telling you this…..

Well!  All I can say is that the performers from Cirque Du Soliel are amazing! I have seen them twice now, last weekend and in New York whilst visiting my Dad.

The Core Strength, Balance, Flexibility, Confidence and Energy each and every one has is inspiring, motivating and exciting.  The positions they manage to get into, and then hold must require the most ridiculous amount of strength and control. Plus if anyone is looking for an excellent visual for Rock Hard Abs, Perfect Posture & Core Strength this is definately the place to go to!! The body definition combined with the control, power and confidence was inspiring! Look out Team Energised Clients….

I just wondered how much you would be able to do with your own fitness, strength and confidence? If you just stretched your boundaries by about 10% what would be possible? Often we limit ourselves by what we think is possible for us, yet actively encourage and support someone else in achieving their dreams.

This month’s Women’s Fitness Magazine has a feature from Alevtyna Titarenko from Cirque Du Soliel about her workouts and how to gain a strong, lean and confident body! Her Aerial Act was simply breathtaking and the positions she held I can only imagine trying in my dreams!!  Check out page 42 – 45, in the Feb 2012 Issue (You can subscribe for £1 a month too!)  and see her in the Aerial Gymnastics section – breathtaking summarises it well.

I wonder if you stretched your boundaries, and did something different how you would feel. I am sure that if I did a workout with the Cirque Du Soliel athletes I would not be ‘fit’! Perhaps we should try that – it could be interesting….! Yet in my every day life I am fit and strong.

So if this week you did something different, trained differently, ate wisely, spoke positively to yourself and stretched your boundaries by 10% what would you find yourself doing and aiming towards by the end of the week?

And to those of you who say you can’t or don’t know how ….. here is some evidence from every day clients who had the confidence and stretched their boundaries … Felicity – 2 years ago she couldn’t really even walk or stand up straight now she is hula hooping 5km easily, Rhona had a swelling on her brain and couldn’t remember who I was (some may like that concept after a PT Session!) and is now returning to Bootcamp, Rachel had never done any real fitness and she trekked to the North Pole, Adam suffered a complete physical and mental breakdown, returning to run a half marathon with his life and confidence re energised, ‘A’ is short listed for the Olympics this year following a major hip operation, and Sophie qualified for Kona IM first time, and placed top 10 whilst working full time!

Anything is possible – you just had to find out what you want to do, focus on making it happen, getting the support in place to make it happen and believing that you CAN DO IT.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts…. and if we can help in anyway to increase your confidence & fitness to achieve anything from starting fitness to a crazy charity challenge or race do let us know.
